ClientEarth welcomes potentially game-changing Ecodesign Regulation

27 May 2024

The EU Council has today adopted the Ecodesign Regulation, which sets out requirements for the sustainable design of products. The goal is to reduce the negative impacts of products and their manufacturing on pollution, biodiversity and the climate.

Julian Schenten, legal expert at ClientEarth, said: “The adoption of the Ecodesign Regulation could be a game-changer for product design in the circular economy. If implemented correctly, it has the potential to provide clarity on the chemicals present in everyday products. This transparency is the first step towards eliminating toxic products from our lives altogether.

“The ball is now in the Commission’s court. It must quickly adopt delegated acts, which set out precise performance and information requirements – starting with textiles.”
