Steven is a Senior Researcher in Food System Economic Modelling at the University of Oxford.  His recent work focusses on the long-term economic costs of the impacts of food production and consumption, including externalities from GHG emissions, nitrogen emissions, land-use change, and distributional and institutional failures such as malnutrition. Steven was an author and a principal modeller for the Food System Economic Commission, and principal modeller and advisory group member for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) State of Food and Agriculture 2023 and 2024 reports on the economic costs of the impacts of the global food systems. Steven consults on sustainable food systems for NGOs, companies, and government institutions. He has a diverse background. His initial studies were in pure mathematics and he is the author of three books in pure mathematics.
