| ClientEarth acts on London air pollution letter |

July 2009 | View the letter | Annex 1 | Annex 2 | Annex 3 | Annex 4 | Annex 5 Air pollution in London is the worst in the UK and among the worst in Europe. As part of its CleanAir campaign, ClientEarth wrote to the European Commission urging it to not to grant the UK a time extension to bring levels of dangerous airborne particles in Greater London to within legal limits. Whether or not an extension is granted, we will work to compel the government to comply in full with legal limits on air pollution, established in law by the commission and currently flouted in London. We intend to continue applying pressure to the government, encouraging it to create and implement a credible and ambitious plan to combat air pollution in London before the Olympics are held in the city in 2012. This letter is our first communication with the European commission on the issue. |
