Europe’s environmental movement has campaigned successfully through the years, growing in power and influence to have a clear and positive impact on EU environmental policy. The body of EU environment law is considerable and has been hard fought. But as the scale and complexity of the challenge facing the planet becomes clear, so the demand for new tools and techniques increases.
ClientEarth is providing a new service to Europe’s NGOs: legal muscle. Equipped with legal strategies, expert analysis and legal advice from our team of world-class activist lawyers, the environmental movement in Europe will have a stronger voice and a deeper impact.
ClientEarth is currently preparing legal action to force the EU to uphold the right enshrined in EU law for Europe’s NGOs to complain of environmental damage before the European Court of Justice.
ClientEarth will open up the EU environmental record to scrutiny, expose failures of Member State governments to implement EU laws on environmental protection, and help citizens and NGOs fight for justice in the courts.
ClientEarth is currently advising Brussels-based NGOs Climate Action Network, WWF's European Policy Office, Friends of the Earth Europe and CEE Bankwatch Network to shape new laws, and is preparing a multi-country legal campaign to step up the enforcement of EU laws already agreed. Working in partnership with NGOs such as SOS Grand Bleu in France, we will bring test case litigation before Europe’s courts.
